so, we have actually been doing some studying, besides all this galavanting around ky...currently we are working on 4 "books"...

Handling $ God's Way: we are currently on the 4th chapter, in which we studied

Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender. Proverbs 22:7

we also made 3 money jars, where s* can visually see her Savings, Tithing, & Spending $$

{3rd ch. - Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

1 Corinthians 4:2, we defined "steward" from Noah Webster (1828 ed.) as: ...a minister of Christ, whose duty is to dispense the provisions of the gospel, to preach its doctrines and administer its ordinances. we also looked at Luke 16:1-2, 10 & Hebrews 4:13}

{2nd ch. - Everything in the heavens and earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as being in control of everything. Riches and honor come from you alone and you are the Ruler of all mankind: your hand controls power and might, and it is at your discretion that men are made great and given strength. 1 Chronicles 29:11-12, we also researched an example from the Bible of the Lord providing for someone's needs - 1 Kings 17:2-7, we also looked at Matthew 6:31-33, Philippians 4:19}

{1st ch. - If therefore you have not been faithful in the use of worldly wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you? Luke 16:11, we talked about the greatest differences between the way people handle $$ & God's way, we learned that there are more than 2,350 verses in the Bible that talk about $$, we also looked at Isaiah 55:8-9}

The Mighty Works of God: Self-Government: we just finished the 2nd chapter in which we studied 3 'Leading Ideas':

1. Government is direction & control. (defined by Noah Webster)
2. Internal is causative to the external. (Proverbs 4:23, 23:7a, Matthew 12:35)
3. If I govern myself well, I will not need others to control me.

we also looked at Louisa May Alcott's poem "My Kingdom" ,

we also did a craft with Psalm 119:11

{1st ch. - 3 Leading Ideas:

1. History is His Story.
2. Studying History will help us to recognize God's Hand as He works in the lives of men and nations.
3. God commands us to remember all He has done for us as individuals and nations. (Deuteronomy 7:18, 8:2, Psalm 78:1-11)}

The 7 C's of History: we are currently working on lesson 5- Christ! (Genesis 3:15, Matthew 1:1-25, Luke 1:26-2:40, John 1:1-14, Mark 5:21-42) there is a really cool timeline in the handout that comes with the book (from AIG, Ken Ham) that shows pix of each person in the ancestry of Jesus from Adam, and the lineage from both Mary & Joseph, s* was able to look at this as i read the account in Genesis. there are coloring pages & "unit studies" at the end of each lsn like 'archeology', 'Bible', 'geology', 'anthropology', human anatomy', 'alternate languages', etc. the Bible one for this lsn was looking at the 4 gospel accounts in relation to the genealogy and life of Jesus:

• Matthew was a Jewish tax collector, his book reveals that he wrote for primarily a Jewish readership as he documents prophesies fulfilled by Christ and emphasizes the kingly nature of Jesus.
• Mark's account is thought to emphasize the servanthood of Jesus and was most likely written for Roman believers
• Luke, the 'beloved physician' addressed his account with an emphasis on the humanity of the Messiah, possibly written for a relatively unknown man, Theophilus
• John's book about the life of Christ highlights the deity of Christ and has a distinct evangelistic emphasis.

{lsn 4 - Confusion (Genesis 9:18-11:9) in this lesson we talked about 'Babel', 'interracial marriage', 'ziggurats', why God confused the language, what kinds of things you would take if you had to move suddenly, what kind of skills you would have once you moved to settle in the next place, 'cavemen', 'one blood'.}

{lsn 3 - Catastrophe (Genesis 6:9-19) we learned what a catastrophe is, Noah & the Ark, the fact that the animals 'came to' Noah - he didn't have to go get them, God's judgement, the covenant/promise - the rainbow, 'global' vs. 'local flood'.}

{lsn 2 - Corruption (Genesis 2:15-17, 3, 4) we discussed Eve's interaction w/the serpent, what God actually said, the choice God gave Adam, what Adam & Eve did after they disobeyed, God did the first killing to provide clothing, Cain's wife, Biblical law against brother-sister marriage were instituted around 2,000 yrs. after Adam (Leviticus 18), Adam & Eve were made perfect w/no genetic mistakes - today, 6,000 yrs. after the Curse genetic mistakes have accumulated generation after generation so that now each of us carries many mutations in our genes.}

{lsn 1 - Creation (Genesis 1:1-2:3) 6 days of Creation, what was created on each day, how God created, dinasours, how we know the Creation days are approx. 24 hour days, how we determine time.}

Black Beauty: we are reading this classic by Anna Sewell, first we studied a little on the author, and her background, birth/death dates, location of her birth & life, her life story.

we are reading a chapter every other day and listing 'key points', then s* is writing a 3-4 paragraphs summarizing each chapter based on the key points. she really loves the story so far!
