oh my goodness, summer* and i had such a great time yesterday!
it didn't start out that way, as we had to be up at 7am and on the road to etown (35min. away) by 8am -- way out of our comfort zone, way too early!
'course it was also a beautiful day and s* would much rather have been playing with her friends than going to a "boring conference" with MOM~
hmmmmmm...
turned out to be an absolutely wonderful experience...
here is some info on it...
well, as you all know s* has no fear of being "on stage", i, on the other hand, would much rather blend into the crowd~ well, she lept out of her chair when the woman on stage asked if there were any daughters that would like to come up on stage and tell why they love their mom so much...(i know she just wanted to get up on stage, but i was a little moved by it anyway, lol) well, she was chosen and i was made to go up their with her (ugh!)...
there were 5 of us mother/daughter couples, (out of maybe 300??) and when s* was given the microphone she said she loved me so much because:
"well we argued a lot this morning about coming here, well that's not the reason, but because mom said we were going anyway, and i am soooooo glad we did, and i am so glad that mom makes me come to stuff like this because i always end up having a great time, and i am grateful that we are here today!"
....my heart was racing, knees knocking, palms sweaty -- s* was holding my hand and arm, (she made a comment when we went back to our seat-- "man, mom, you really were nervous being up there!") lol
anyway, i learned so much at the conference and s* did too! one of my fave speakers was Jackie Kendall, she was 'the most down to earth' for my tastes!she started out by saying, "there are probably a lot of moms out there like me who were immoral prior to having children and are now HYPERPARENTING, trying to save their children from making all of the bad choices that we made..."
we were at the conference from 9a-5p, it was a long, emotionally charged day~
at the end of the conference we were given braclets to give to our daughters and make a 'commitment prayer' with them...s* and i stayed in our seats as the rest of the mother/daughter couples moved around and found a private spot in the auditorium...it was a divine moment for me and s*...we were both sobbing, and i spoke to God on her behalf while i held her close to me; i asked for Grace, Mercy, Strength, Comfort, Forgiveness, and His Guidance all the days of her life...
the theme of the conference and the scripture on the bracelet was Proverbs 4:23~
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

sounds like a pretty good day in E-town. S* i know how you feel when you go to things with your parents it's always more fun than i think i will be.
Kim, this is really beautiful. Although we always think that our children do not love us they always surprise us. I am so glad that you went. Take her to all them and let her know just how to conduct herself with the opposite sex also. Mike needs to help with this part of parenting. Love you Grandma
I love both of you....great time spent....:)
Wow! Really sounds like a meaningful day. I'm glad you and s* are able do do things like that. Josh and I wen to a y-guide event one time where we had an afirmation ceremony with our sons. That kind of experience is always meaningful to us parents. I'm sure you both will remember this event and continue to draw strength from it for years to come. You are a great mom, keep it up. Love ya -- Dad
